39 years later

On Saturday 15th August 1970 we moved into our home. The one we are still in. It was the first house in a new sub-division that was the first of MANY sub-divisions that now almost completely crowd West Bountiful all these years later.!!!!

(We could see North to Ogden, and we watched the fireworks at Lagoon)
There was Alan and I and five children. We added another child within a year.
(We could see all surrounding areas East and to 10th North)
Our home had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and an unfinished basement. We have remodelled the kitchen, added a deck, finished a bedroom, family room, bathroom, and laundry room in the basement. Painted and papered several times, recarpeted probably 4 times, added 2 trees in the backyard, planted a chesnut found on the Capitol grounds that has grown into a huge tree, and changed landscaping many times. Lived in 2 Stakes and 2 Wards. On the day we moved in the Stake President Clarence Samuelson and 6 of the Seven Presidents of Seventy (Alan was the 7th) in our Stake moved the piano into it's place in the living room where it has remained. It is the only thing original to the house on that date. We replaced windows and cement and widened the driveway. We have had happy times and sad times, we have welcomed additions to the family through marriages and births, we have watched kids move away in-State and out-of-State, and move back and still we are here. As I researched pictures for this post, THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF LIVING AND LOVING in our home.

This other Eden, demi-paradise,......
.....This happy breed of men, this little world,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, ......
King Richard II. Act ii. Sc. 1. [text]

(I hope no one objects if I quote the Bard out of context)

There are two sayings displayed in our home.

One Irish

(A 100,000 welcomes)

the other scripture.

AND WE DO

Hey, this was a great post!!! I didn't een reaize it was the anniversary of moving in! Definitely a LOT of memories have been made in that house and will continue to be made! Luckily there have been more tears of laughter than tears of sadness. Definitely a lot of LOVE!!

Love it. I have a feeling I'll be writing a similar post about our house in a few years...it looks like we'll never move either :)

I remember one day Mom picking me up from something, somewhere, just me and her as I recall. And she told me we were moving to a new house and she drove me to the spot where it would be built. I remember it being built and I remember the day we moved in. At night we could see the lit sign of Slim Olsen's enormous gas station on the other end of Bountiful. A few years later I would hit golf balls across Pages Lane and over the irrigation ditch and into the wide open pasture across the street, then run out and find them. I walked to West Bountiful Elem., Centerville JH and Viewmont from there. Oh well, I could go on and on. It's home. Thanks for the post Mom.

Thanx for reminding me about the creek. I meant to mention that. It is still there, just buried in a conduit. Scared the daylights outta me when we moved in.

Your house is a HOME, and that is the best part of it. Great pictures and post...I can't wait to show Tim tonight!!

This was a great post. I remember having a slumber party shortly after we moved in. I remember when we got the new end table and lamp and I was so proud when we held a youth fireside at our house and we had such a fancy lamp and table. A timely post as I have contemplated a similar post bidding farewell to my home of 27 years.

Tim says: In the 7th grade Santa brought me a .22 caliber rifle for Christmas. I remember one night about a month or so later that I had not yet had the opportunity to "use" my Christmas present. I was the only one home so I determined to try out my new gun. I shut off all the lights of the house and retrieved the gun from under my bed. I loaded a shell in the chamber and slid open the glass door in the dining room (just enough to accomodate the muzzle of a gun). With the curtains almost fully closed I aimed at the frozen pond behind our house. With my heart pounding in my chest I squeezed the trigger and let fly a bullet, breaking the ice of the pond. Then quickly I closed the door and ran down stairs replacing my gun under the bed. I left the lights off for at least 15 minutes so when the police came down the street they would not suspect anybody in our abandoned house. Now you know Mom and Dad all these years later. If that is not proof there were hardly any houses around I don't know what is.

Tim also says: Oh, by the way, don't any of my nephews try anything so studpid!!

Yeah... I remember a present I got for Christmas in that house and TIM was the first one to play with it! My Barbie Ski Resort!

It's okay if my nephews play Barbie's with their sister. Wait, my nephews are all pretty old... 'cept Derek. And I think he would play Barbie's with his sisters.

I was amazed to realize your home has been part of my life for almost 25 of the 39 years. It is definitely HOME to us in Utah--- a welcoming, warm, safe harbor when the prodigal Marsdens of California come visit now and again. Even my google login has something to do with "our Utah" home. Okay, I think I just gave hackers a clue as to how to hack my google account :-( Beautiful post, Mom!

We enjoyed seeing your home now and then. Life has moved along quickly and gotten busier and busier. Isn't it wonderful to have families to share the changes with and to enjoy the blessings like new great granddaughters. It is also wonderful to have friends from days gone by and new ones that come along through the years. We're glad we are counted among the later.
